What is the ideal stage and plane for a anesthetized patient?
Stage 3 plane 2
What is the behavior of a patient during stage I of anesthesia?
Disorientation, struggling, fear
What is the behavior of a patient in stage II excitement stage of anesthesia?
Excitement: reflex struggling, vocalization, paddling, chewing
What is the behavior of a patient in stage III/ Light stage III of anesthesia?
Unconscious; possible movement in response to surgical stimulation
What is the behavior of a patient in stage III/ surgical anesthesia?
Unconscious; immobile
What is the behavior of a patient in stage III/ Deep stage III of anesthesia?
Unconscious; immobile
What is the behavior of a patient in stage IV of anesthesia?
Unconscious; immobile
In stage I of anesthesia what is the respiration like?
Respiratory rate increased; dogs may pant
In stage II Excitement stage of anesthesia what is the respiration like?
Irregular, may hold breath or hyperventilate
In stage III/Light stage III of anesthesia what is the respiration like?
Regular; rate - high, normal, or low

Apnea (not breathing)
What is the cardiovascular function of a patient in stage II Excitement stage of anesthesia?
Heart rate often increased
What is the cardiovascular function of a patient in stage III/Light stage III of anesthesia?
Heart rate often high normal; pulse strong
What is the cardiovascular function of a patient in stage III/ Surgical of anesthesia?
Heart rate often normal or mildly decreased, capillary refill time (CRT) normal; pulse strength decreased

Heart rate low normal to well below normal; pale mucous membranes; CRT high normal or prolonged; pulse strength significantly decreased
What is the cardiovascular function of a patient in stage IV of anesthesia?
Cardiovascular collapse
What is the cardiovascular function of a patient in stage I of anesthesia?
Heart rate increased
How many stages of anesthesia are there?
5 stages
