What is a placebo?
A substance used in clinical trials which does not contain any drugs.
What is a double blind test?
A drug trial in which the doctor nor the patient knows whether they are taking the drug or the placebo.
Give me two examples of a sedative.
Cannabis, alcohol
What are stimulants?
Stimulants speed up processes
and chemical reactions in the
brain. They make people feel
more alert and energetic.
Give me two medical drugs.
Ibuprofen, morphine, penicillin, paracetamol
What is a recreational drug?
Drugs taken for pleasure.
What are gateway drugs?
A gateway drug is a drug that leads a person to take more harmful drugs.
What can cannabis lead onto?
Heroin
What is a sedative?
Sedatives slow down processes and chemical reactions in the brain. They make people feel more sleepy and ‘able to cope’.
Give me two withdrawal symptoms.
Sweating, shaking, dizziness, nausea, headaches
What does thalidomide do to unborn babies?
Damaged them
Give me two examples of stimulants.
Caffeine, cocaine
What does addiction do to the body?
Causes chemical changes in the brain and the body.
What are illegal drugs?
Drugs which are deemed harmful by the government. Possession and consumption is a criminal offence
Give me two examples of illegal drugs.
Cannabis, cocaine, meth, heroin
What is a legal drug?
These drugs are sold openly and consumption and possession is not a criminal offence. Many of these drugs are given an age restriction.

Alcohol, vitamin
Give two examples of a gateway drug.
Alcohol, cocaine, cannabis
What are the side effects of thalidomide on unborn babies?
Legs and arms not being completely formed.
