What is the site of action for SSRIs

A

RAPHE NUCLEUS: Serotonin site of action

–>Most of the cells that use serotonin as a primary signaling messenger are in the Raphe Nucleus in the brain stem and mid-brain, projections throughout the brain.

–>NOTE range of postsynaptic receptors modulated by serotonin and the intracellular pathways that may be involved - ultimately effecting gene expression and neuroplasticity
