What is “SIG-E-CAPS”?
A
It is the mnemonic that can help you remember the vegetative signs that can be involved in depression:
Sleep changes: increase during the day or decreased sleep at night
Interest (loss): loss of interest in activities that used to interest them
Guilt (worthless): depressed elderly tend to devalue themselves
Energy (lack): common presenting symptom (fatigue)
Cognition/ Concentration: reduced cognition and/or difficulty concentrating
Appetite (wt. loss): usually declined, occasionally increased
Psychomotor: agitation (anxiety) or retardations (lethargic)
Suicide/ death preoccupation
