Q

Mechanism of action of heparin

A

Binds to Antithrombin III and inactivates factors IIa and Xa . It accelerates the rate of activated coagulation factors by antithrombin and prevents progression of existing clots by inhibiting further clots

Q

Mechanism of action of Warfarin

A

Inhibits K reductase resulting in less vitamin K. Factors II,VII,IX and X reduces prothrombin levels and this reduces the thrombogenicity of clots

Q

Mechanism of action of DOAC’S

Q

What is the mechanism of action of ibuprofen

A

COX forms prostaglandins and thromboxane - No prostaglandins = anti-inflammatory effect. No arachidonic acid to Thromboxane A2 = no stimulation of new platelets
