What tools are needed for the process?
Tenon Saw, Try Square, Ruler, Vice, Coping Saw, Sandpaper
What is the first step in the process?
Marking out - Use the steel rule and try square to mark out finger joints with equal spacing.
How do you ensure straight lines when marking out?
Use the try square to ensure straight lines.
What should be done with the fingers on opposing pieces?
Make sure fingers are opposite on the opposing pieces.
How do you make straight cuts with the Tenon Saw?
Place the material in the vice and use the tenon saw to make straight cuts on the waste side of the line.
What is done with the end fingers of the material?
Turn the material 90 degrees and make another straight-line cut to finish the finger.
How are central fingers cut out?
Use a coping saw, cutting diagonally, then carefully cut horizontally back to the other tenon saw cut.
What tool can be used to clean out the joints?
A chisel can be used to clean out the joints.
What should be ensured while using the chisel?
Be very careful and ensure that you use the tool safely.
What is the purpose of dry fitting the two pieces of material?
To ensure they slide together.
What adhesive is used for gluing the pieces together?
PVA is used for gluing.
How should the glued pieces be clamped?
Use a try square to ensure they are 90 degrees to each other.
What is the final step after the glue has dried?
Sand down the work and apply a finish, such as varnish.
