E1 Structures Flashcards
(19 cards)
What does the urinary system include?
Kidneys and is involved in filtering wbd removing wastes from blood
Kidney function
Remove urea, ammonia, salts, and excess water from the blood
Maintain water balance
Deamination meaning
Removal of nitrogen containing amino group, this produced ammonia
How is urea created?
Ammonia combined with co2
What is uric acid?
Byproduct of nucleic acid metabolism
Structure of urinary system (top to bottom)
Kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra
What is apart of the kidney structure?
Renal cortex, renal medulla, renal pelvis
Where is renal pelvis located in kidney?
Near mouth of ureter, funnel like structure
Where is the renal medulla located in kidney
Inner section of kidney, contains collecting ducts
Where is the renal cortex located in the kidney?
Outer section, contains bowman’s capsule
What is a nephron
Main functional unit of kidney, filtrated, reabsorbs water and essential solutes, secretion (wastes are transported out of blood), excretion
What is the renal artery
Branches from aorta and enters kidney
What is renal vein
Joins the interior vena cava and filtered blood is carried
What is a glomerulus
High pressure capillary beds
What is bowman’s capsule (nephron structure)
Cup structure around glomerulus
Proximal tubule (nephron structure)
After bowman’s leads to loop of henle
Looo of henle (nephron structure)
Desecending and ascending loop
Distal tubule nephron structure
After loop
Collecting duct nephron structure
Collects urine carries it to renal pelvis
