E2 Urine Formation Flashcards
(14 cards)
Roll of the nephron
Filters blood, reabsorbs essentials, secreted excess toxins like urea
Steps to urine formation
Glomerular filtration, tubule reabsorption, tubular secretion, water reabsorption
What is glomerular filtration
Moves water and small solutes from blood to nephron
What is tubule reabsorption
Reabsorbs useful solutes back to blood stream (sodium)
What is tubular secretion
Additional wasted move from capillary into nephron
What is water reabsorption
Remained water from filtrate and return to blood
Capillaries in Glomerulus are extra permeable, true or false?
True
What is the fluid in bowman’s capsule known as?
Filtrate
Does glomerular filtration require energy
No
Proximal tubule function
Reabsorbs nutrients through active transport and secretes hydrogen
Function of loop of henle
Reabsorbs water and ions from filtrate
Descending loop = permeable to o2
Ascending = non permeable to o2, permeable to salt
Distal tube function
Active transports wastes from blood to nephron, reabsorbs water though osmosis and regulates hormones to maintain homeostasis
Collecting duct function
Reabsorbs water to further concentrate filtrate
What is urine
Super concentrated filtrate
