what is an ecosystem?
a distinct, self supporting system of organisms interacting its each other and with the physical environment
what is population?
all of the organisms of one species that live in same place at same time
what is community?
all the population of all the species that live in same ecosystem at same time
what is habitat?
place where an organism live
what is biodiversity?
amount of variation of organisms living in an ecosystem
what are the trophic levels?
feeding level in a food chain/web
what is level 1?
producers
use sun energy to produce food
what is the 2 level?
primary consumers
what is the 3 level?
secondary consumers
what is a food chain?
shows how the energy is transferred between organisms
what is a food web?
croup of interlinked food chains
ho much energy is actually transferred during the energy transfer?
10% transferred
90% lost
where does 90% of energy go in an energy transfer?
to the environment
eg. respiration, excretion, not everything is eaten (bones)
what are the main processes of a carbon cycle?
photosynthesis
respiration
decomposition
combustion
describe photosynthesis
removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and stores carbon in plant tissues
