  • some holidays that the KDF offered were still to expensive for most working class
  • Food cost more due to the idea of being ‘self sufficient’, which meant Germany no longer relied on foreign imports

Albert Speer made the country go into total war:
- everything focused on making weapons and food for soldiers
- anything that didn’t help was closed down, such as Beer halls
- Factories stayed open much longer than usual

  • many women were brought in from countries that Germany had invaded to work as slave labour in the factories

  • 1000s left their homes to find safety as refugees
