What is the definition of an ecosystem?
An ecosystem is a living community of plants and animals and the environment in which they live.
What do the living things do in their environment together ?
They interact
Where are ecosystems found?
In parks, gardens, fields, forests, ponds, lakes, oceans and mountains
What size are ecosystems?
They can be any size or scale
Give examples of living things in an ecosystem?
Plants, trees, fish, bacteria, shrubs, grass and reeds
Give examples of non-living things in an ecosystem.
Air, sand, water, rocks, sunlight, birds etc.
How does an ecosystem work?
It all starts with plants, who are really smart.
How are plants smart?
They do something no other living thing can do.
What can plants do but no other living thing can?
Make its own food inside itself
How do the plants make their own food?What from?
They trap the suns energy and then the leaves take on carbon dioxide and water through its roots.
What does the sun make the carbon dioxide and water into?
A glucose.
What does the glucose do after it has been made?
It combines with minerals from the soil to help the plant grow
What are the minerals in a plant called?what are they?
Nutrients and they are potassium, nitrogen and phosphorus
What is a food chain?
Shows which animals each which.
What does the food chain start with?
Vegetation which is a producer because it makes its own food
What is the first animal in the food chain?
is called a Primary Consumer
