Definition of an ecosystem
A natural biological unit made up of both living and non living parts.
Three biotic factors
Disease, grazing, predation, food availability
Three abiotic factors
Light intensity, wind speed, soil moisture, temperature
Definition of population
The number of individuals of one species in an ecosystem
Definition of habitat
An area of an ecosystem in which an organism lives
Definition of a community
A collection of all the different populations that live in a habitat
Definition of species
A group of organisms which can interbreed to produce fertile offspring
Definition of biodiversity
The range of the different species living in an ecosystem
What do the arrows in a food chain represent?
The direction of energy flow
What is a producer and give example
Organisms which can create their own food through photosynthesis (green plants, algae)
What is a consumer?
Organisms that feed on other organisms for energy
What is a herbivore?
Organisms which feed on producers for energy
What is a carnivore?
An organisms which only eats other animals
What is an omnivore?
An organism that eats both producers and animals
What is a niche?
The role that an organism plays within an ecosystem
