What political affiliation were most Weimar teachers?
Right wing- in 1933, 300 university professors signed an appeal to the German people to vote Nazi.
What led to their increased support of Nazi party?
Low pay- meant the Nazi idea of education underpinning the New Reich was therefore appealing.
Who was education controlled by? What did this mean? in WG
The Lander; that there was a diverse range of education and schools.
What determined career? in WG
The Tripartite system: Realschule, Gymnasium, Haptschule
What was WG’s aim for religious schools?
To phase them out, though by 1931 80% of schools were faith based.
What did secondary school curriculum depend on? in WG
The type of school attended- eg. those attending a haptchule were taught to work in trade and apprenticeships
What did students need to pass to attend university? Who dominated university? in WG
The Abitur exam; mostly middle and upper class students- only 2.3% of those at university were working class.
