EE1F24- Statics/Materials Flashcards
(12 cards)
How many different types of materials are there?
There are three types of material, Isotropic, Orthotropic and Non-Isotropic.
What are the constants considered an Isotropic material?
Direction of cut has no effects on constants, most metals with no pronounced grain structure.
How are constants considered for an orthotropic material?
Depends on the direction of the cut
What are the constants considered for a type of material?
-Youngβs modulus
-Modulus of rigidity
-Bulk Modulus
-Poissonβs ratio
What differentiates types of material?
The constants measured from samples cut from bulk material.
What is the equation for stress?
Stress = π = πΉ/
π΄
What is the equation for strain?
Strain = π = ΞπΏ/
πΏπ
What is an elastic material?
What is the equation for shear strain?
deflection/original length
What is the equation for shear stress?
Shear force/Shear Area
What is yield strength?
Can be thought of as the stress at a materials elastic limit.
Where is yield strength determined for materials without a well defined yield point?
Determined at 0.2% strain, point at where there is o.2% plastic strain when unloaded.
