Tx: warm compress, I&D
*internal –> chalazion
Orbital Cellulitis
Test: CBC, blood and drainage culture
Tx: EMS, IV abx
Otitis Media
Et: strep pneumonia, H. influenza, moraxella catarrhalis; poor drainage eustachian tubes
Hx: fever, pressure, pn
Tx: amoxicillian
F/U: 3 days
Labyrinthitis
Et: unknown –> 2nd otitis or viral infection
viral - measles, mumps, URI
bacteria - strep pnuemonia, h. influenza, moraxella catarrhalis
Hx: temp vertigo N/V
Acute Mastoiditis
Tx: EMS, IV abx
Otitis Externa
Et: bacterial or fungal
Tx: topical abx, steroid drops
URI
Et: Rhinovirus, coronavirus
Hx: rhinitis and nasal congestion
Tx: symptomatic
Strep Throat
Et: Group A - strep pyogenes
Hx: tonsillar exudate, anterior cervical adenopathy, fever, no cough
Infectious Mononucleosis
Et: epstein barr virus; adolescents, young adults
Hx: fever, pharnygitis, tonsillar exudate, fatigue, posterior lymphadenopathy
Sinusitis
Et: viral or bacterial - strep pneumoniae, H. influenzae, moraxella catarrhalis
Hx: purulent discharge and fever = bacterial
Tx: viral - supportive; bacterial - abx
