National health act 1946-48
- provided free medical assistance
Medical, dental and optical services free of charge. 90% of doctors joined, private practices remain.
/ too expensive, hospitals old and out of date.

The national assistance act
-provided benefits and resources for those not covered by the insurance act.
Provided a safety net.

-helped cover against illness, unemployment, retirement and many other burdens.
Helped workers injured or unemployed
/ wasn’t comprehensive and was expensive to run
+ those joining scheme for the first ten years didn’t receive full benefits for the first ten years.

Squalor new towns act
14 new towns built
Built across Britain, providing clean, safe homes away from the old, overcrowded and war damaged cities.
/ soulless and often left the working class families cut off due to a lack of transport available
Squalor (1946 and 1949)
The housing act
Government would aim to build 200,000 homes a year, many prefabricated which could be built on site.
labour did well considering the conditions and lack of materials.
/ materials ran out and no where near enough homes were built.
+ more than 157,000 Prefabricated homes were built.
Idleness nationalisation
- the labour government took control of certain industries on purpose to help create employment. Could keep failing businesses running keeping employment.
/ very costly as many of the businesses were worn down
+ row tree noted poverty down to 2%.
Why were social divisions created?

- helped to create a skilled work force

- secondary education compulsory until the age if 15.
Provided meals, milk and medical services at every school.
/ working class excluded from best education and few technical schools built.
+ mainly primary schools built let rather than secondary schools, which were largely neglected.
