Q

treatment for Epicondylitis

A

Activity modification
NSAIDS/ Rub in cream
ICE/HEAT
Elbow strap

Stretching and strengthening exercises are the mainstay of treatment

refer to rehab if not better
maybe steroid injection, PRP, shock wave therapy

refer to specialist after 6 months of conservative treatment

Q

Diagnostics for Ulnar Nerve Entrapment?

A

Xray to rule out trauma

EMG/NCV done to see if there is reduction of 30% or more which suggests substantial compression

17
Q

What is the treatment for Ulnar Nerve Entrapment

A

Avoiding bending of elbow
night splints
NSAIDS
change work station
padding of elbow
surgery

18
Q

Who typically fractures the distal humerus?

A

Children

uncommon in adults

if it’s displaced do surgery
non-dispalced do a sling or splint

19
Q

Signs and symptoms of Distal humerus fracture?

A

Swelling deformity,
ecchymosis
pain
crepitus with flexion

ULNAR NERVE DYSFUNCTION MOST COMMON NEUROVASCULAR TISSUE

20
Q

How to diagnose Distal humerus fracture

A

AP-lat views X-rays

that show FAT PAD OR SAIL SIGN
- indicates bleeding into joint/ occult fracture

21
Q

How do you treat distal humerus fractures

A

Surgery and sling

22
Q

How does elbow dislocation happen

A

Most commonly disjointed in children

FALLING ON OUTSTRETCHED HAND

23
Q

Signs and symptoms of elbow dislocation?

A

Pain, deformity

INABILITY TO BEND ELBOW

24
Q

How to diagnosis elbow dislocation?

A

Ap/lat x-ray views

25
How to treat elbow dislocation?
REDUCTION ASAP repeat nv exams, repeat X-rays
26
why are NSAIDS used in elbow dislocation
To reduce ectopic bone formation
27
How does olecranon fracture happen
Direct blow or FALLING ON ELBOW IN FLEXION
28
Signs and symptoms of olecranon fracture?
Swelling, ecchymosis, abrasions
29
How to diagnose olecranon fracture
Xray with ap/lateral view
30
Treatment for a non-displaced olecranon fracture?
Posterior splint in 45 degree of flexion with f/u x-rays in 10 days
31
Treatment for a displaced olecranon fracture?
Surgery
32
How do people get radial head fractures?
Falling on outstretched hand, assc with dislocation of elbow most common elbow joint fracture in adults
33
How do patients present with radial head fractures?
Pain and tenderness along the lateral outside aspect of the elbow
34
How do you diagnose radial head fractures?
X-ray with ap and lateral views FAT PAD SIGNS IN ADULTS
35
How do you treat type 1 radial head fracture
Well it's non-displaced and usually splint or sling
36
How do you treat type 2 and 3 radial head fracture
surgery
37
What is olecranon bursitis
Inflammation of the bursa between the skin and olecranon can be gradual or sudden
38
signs and symptoms of olecranon bursitis?
dramatic swelling of the elbow redness and warmth
39
what happens as fluid resorbs in a patient with olecranon bursitis
patients may feel lumps that are tender, this is scar tissue and described as bits of gravel
40
What is treatment for mild olecranon bursitis
If mild = leave alone or treat symptoms like NSAIDs, padding, or activity modification
41
