Q

What’s the function of the BUS TIE pb?

Pic

A
  1. AUTO (light out) - AC Bus 1 and 2 pwr priority order logic is active
  2. OFF (white) - AC Bus 1 and 2 pwr priority order logic is deactivated and can only be powered by their respective eng generator
  3. With the BUS TIE pb selected OFF, External or APU generator pwr CANNOT be applied to the aircraft

Q

What is the purpose of the AC ESS FEED pb?

Pic

A

The AC ESS FEED pb is used to manually select the pwr source for the AC ESS Bus

1. When in the light our configuration:
     A. AC Bus 1 powers the AC ESS Bus
     B. Should AC Bus 1 fail, AC Bus 2 will
Auto power the AC ESS Bus
2. When selected to ALTN (white):
     A. AC Bus 2 powers the AC ESS Bus
     B. ALTN light remains illuminated

Q

What is the information displayed on the electrical power data boxes on the ECAM ELEC page?
(Pic)

A
1. GEN 1 & 2 and APU GEN:
     A. Percentage of output
     B. Voltage
     C. Frequency
2. EXT PWR:
     A. Voltage
     B. Frequency
3. The EXT PWR data box appears on the ECAM ELEC page as a result of external power being connected to the aircraft

Q

When do the AC & DC ESS SHED Buses displayed on the ECAM ELEC page?
(Pic)

A

The word SHED (Amber) appears on the ECAM ELEC page under AC ESS or DC ESS buses ONLY when the respective bus has auto shed (shed meaning unpowered)

Q

What’s the meaning of the GALLEY SHED indication on the ECAM ELEC page?
(Pic)

A
  1. With only 1 gen powering the aircraft, GALLEY SHED indicates that the galleys main electrical Bus has been auto de powered. However it’s secondary bus remains powered. This is referred to as “partial galley heating”
  2. On the ground with either external or APU generator power in use, both main and secondary galley buses remain powered.
  3. When GALLEY pb is selected OFF, GALLEY SHED indicates that the galleys main and secondary electrical buses are de powered as a result of using the galley PB

Q

What are the cautions associated with selecting the guarded IDG 1 and IDG 2 pbs?
(Pic)

A

To avoid damage to the IDG disconnect mechanism DO NOT:
1. Disconnect unless the eng is
At or above IDLE
2. Hold the pb(s) for more then 3 seconds

Q

What are the color coding convention of the circuit breakers?
(Pic)

A
  1. Green:
    A. Circuit breaker is monitored
    By the Flight Warning
    Computers (FWCs)
    B. C/B TRIPPED ECAM message appears
    On the E/WD
  2. Black:
    A. CB is not monitored by the FWCs
    Therefore no “C/B TRIPPED” msg
    B. The system the CB supports may be
    Monitored by the FWCs
  3. Yellow Capped:
    A. Used in conjunction with the “Flight
    On Battery Only” procedure
    B. Not all aircraft have these CBS painted
Their location is listed in QRH
  4. Red collared:
    A. The red collar around the CB prevents
It from being pulled but WILL NOT
    Prevent normal circuit protection
    B. They provide CB Protection to the
    Wing tip braking system (WTB)

Q

What’s the function of the GEN 1 LINE pb when selected OFF?

Pic

A

When selected OFF (white) appears:

 1. Isolates GEN 1 from the aircrafts elect. System
 2. GEN 1 is limited to only powering one wing tank fuel pump in each wing

Q

What are the 2 methods of activating the emergency generator?
(Pic)

A
  1. Automatically
    A. Loss of pwr to BOTH AC Bus 1 and 2 in flight will auto deploy the Ram Air Turbine(RAT) and activate the emergency generator
  2. Manually:
    A. Selecting the red guarded MAN ON pb
On the EMER ELEC PWR Panel will
Manually deploy the (RAT) and activate
    The emergency generator
  3. Note: selecting the RAT MAN ON pb on the HYD panel will deploy the RAT but WILL NOT activate the emergency generator

Q

Where is the location of the MAINT BUS switch?

Pic

A
  1. On the electrical panel located on the ceiling of the forward galley
  2. Used to allow ext pwr to be applied ONLY to the cabin service buses while keeping the flight deck unpowered

Q

What is the Emergency Electrical Configuration?

Pic

A
1. Emergency generator powers:
     A. AC ESS Bus
     B. DC ESS Bus, through the
          ESS TR
     C. AC and DC ESS SHED buses through
          Their ESS Buses
2. Busses powered by the emergency generator are displayed on the ECAM ELEC page
3. A red FAULT light illuminates on the EMER ELEC PWR Panel when AC Bus 1 and 2 are unpowered AND the RAT is deployed BUT the emer generator IS NOT supplying power

Q
What is the power source when:
1. Both engines are shut down
2. The APU START pb indicates ABAIL (green)
3. The EXT PWR pb indicates ON (blue)
(Pic)
A

It is being powered by the External power
1. The AVAIL light means the
APU is running
2. The ON light in the EXT PWR pb
Indicates external power is selected

External power has priority over APU when selected ON

17
Q
What is the power source when:
1. Both engines shut down
2. APU START pb indicates AVAIL(green)
3. EXT PWR pb indicates AVAIL(green)
(Pic)
A

It is powered by the APU generator
1. AVAIL light on APU means it’s
Running
2. AVAIL light on EXT PWR pb only means
That external power has been connected
And meets power requirements. Good
Bolts and frequency)

EXT power would have to be selected on for it to take priority(the APU generators pb is usually left in the ON (light out) position)

18
Q

Must external power always be selected ON manually for it to provide power?

A

Yes
