Q

what does the fuse do?

A

melts if the current gets too high, which breaks the circuit to prevent electrical fires

6
Q

why do sparks happen?

A

when the gal to earth is small enough that it’s electrically favourable for charge to move across the gap to / from statically charged object.

Q

what is earthing?

A

when an object is connected to earth so the charge can flow away in order to neutralise the object (eg Barbie)

9
Q

how does static happen?

A

work done by friction between insulators causes the transfer of electrons from one to the other

Q

why do balloons stick to walls when statically charged?

A

electrons in the neutral atoms (wall) move slightly away fromcthe surface because like charges repel, leaving the surface with a positive charge charged objects will induce charge on the neutral object
