(20 cards)
Define current and give its formula
Current is the rate of flow of charge
I = Q/t
Q in coloumbs
WHAT IS CONDUCTION
the flow of electrical charge through matter from places of
regions of high electrical potential to regions of lower electrical potential
What is a conductor?
Material that allows flow of electrical charge to travel through it
quickly
What is an insulator?
Material which does not allow the flow of electrical charge through it
What is the current flowing through a conductor dependent on?
The electrical potential difference across the conductor ,V,
and the resistance of the conductor R
Define potential difference
The work done put in a charge in moving from a reference point to a designated point within a static electrical field
Give the formula for potential difference
V = W/Q
Where is the potential difference in in V
Q is charge in Coulombs
Is work done in Joules
Define resistance
Materials opposition to a flow of current
What is resistance dependent on?
The length of the conductor
The cross-sectional area of the conductor
The type of material
The temperature of the material
States Ohms law
Give formula
The current flowing through a conductor is proportional to the applied voltage and inversely proportional to resistance
V=IR
Kirchhoff’d voltage law
The sum of all of the voltage drops in a series circuit is equal to the total applied voltage
Kirchhoff’s current law
The current in Paradise circuits equals the sum of the individual branch currents
List Series circuits characteristics
The current fluent through every component is equal
The total resistance is the sum of all the resistances
The sum of all the voltage drops are equal to the total voltage applied
Parallel circuit characteristics
The voltage across every component is equal
The total resistance is equal to the reciprocal of the sum of the reciprocal
The sum of all the currents at each branch is equal to the total current
Power formula
P= I x V
Power in watts
I in Amperes
V in volts
Define electric energy
Electric energy is the product of power and the time
Give electrical energy formula
E = Pt
E is in kW
P is in kW
t is in h
Define electrical power and give its formula and units
The rate at which work is done
P= w/t
Watts
Another name for energy
Work done
