Module 4 - Measurements & Units Flashcards
(12 cards)
What are measurements
A process of systematically assigning numbers to the properties of an object with the aim of studying and describing objects, phenomenon and their relationships.
Basic Quantity Must be defined
in terms of a standard (meter, kilogram, second).
Derived Quantity Defined in terms of
combinations of basic quantities
ºC to Fº
ºF= 32 + 9/5 ºC
Celsius to Kelvin
ºK = ºC +273
Define Density
Mass per unit volume
Density formula
d= m/v
Density = mass/ volume
Density units
g/mL
g/cm³
Specific gravity
SG = d substance/ d water
When to count zero as SF
When they are between digits eg 28009
When they come after a decimal point and significant figure eg 2.800
When to not count zeros as significant figures
When the are at the beginning of a number eg. 003
When the are not after a decimal point eg 2800
When they are after a decimal point but no significant figure eg. 23.0088
Define Accuracy
The closeness
