Electronic Components Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is a resistor?
Resists current a specific amount
LEDs
Light emitting diode
Drops down an electron which releases energy in the form of light
Longer lead is positive end
Capacitor
Store electric charge
Ceramic capacitors flow forward and back
Electrolytic capacitors are polarized
Longer lead is the positive end
Pushbutton switch
Controls the current like a gate
Transistor
Only allows current all around if current is applied to the middle leg.
Can be used as a gate or amplifier.
Light dependent resistors
Photoresistor
Increases resistance with less light exposure.
Variable resistor
Potentiometer
Outer leads are for maximum and minimum resistance.
Middle lead is for setting the knob.
Resistance decreases as the middle pin moves away from the path that connects the min and max settings.
As resistance from max to mid increases, resistance from mid to min decreases.
Can be used for constant resistor, variable resistor, or voltage divider.
Integrated circuits
Prepackaged circuits
Microphone
Convert sound into voltage signal
Negative lead usually has solder trails.
Speaker
Converts electrical signals back to sound.
Composed of a solenoid.
Omnidirectional
Headphone jack
Allows sound in a circuit
Middle lead is ground
