Explain the meaning of “Virtual Earth”, in the context of inverting amplifiers.

  • ideal Op-Amp has infinite open loop gain and input impedance;
  • non-inv. input is at earthed potential;
  • if inv. input == non-inv. input, feedback voltage… ;
  • …acts to reduce difference in Vin until the input voltages are equal;
    (Therefore, when stable, inv. input effectively has 0V)
