Q

structural features

A

free verse, enjambment and caesura all have a combined effect of the chaos in the place that she loves

the danger of the place is reflected in the disorganised and chaotic structural features - however there is a fairly regular stanza length, possibly reflecting the idea of imposing order on the chaos, refusing to be overcome by the negativity of the conflict or power imposed on her.

repetition of ‘they’ creates a threatening tone

final stanza shows caesura - reflecting powerlessness

Q

how is conflict presented

A

inner conflict - resulting in the mixed emotion the speaker feels about having to leave a place she loves - may be presented as heart vs head, heart being love for the place and head being knowing it is too dangerous, this can be reflected by the several uses of juxtaposition
