What is self-regulation?
To regualte/prioritize emotions according to ongoing demands or conditions.We do this by rducing the intensity and frecuency
Why self-regulation is important?
It helps to reach one’s goals, by adjusting emotions to no to take control an avoid sticking to a plan. Also not regulating emotions cand have harmful consequences.
What are some components for a solid self-regulation?
- Metacognition
- Self-efficacy
- Avoiding procrastination
- Cognitive load
Why metacognitive strategies are important to self-regulation?
Helps to have a feedback loop on to how to change the behavior of oneself before and after activities and interactions.
Why metacognition, self-efficacy, avoiding procrastination and cognitive load is important to self-regulation?
Metacognition helps us to reflect of the actions we perform, while self-efficacy helps us to believe on what we are capable of doing, while avoiding procrastination ensures we finish the tasks on time and reducing the cognitive load ensures we complete the task with enough mental energy.
What is attention deployment?
To which extend we respond to Enviromental stimuli
Why lessen the attention deployment is not a permanent strategy to self-regulation?
The more we use it, the less is going to work. For instance, to falsie think of the situation could be less effective over time.
Wha is the strategy of situtation modification?
To change aspects of the environment to change the emotional response.
What is the strategy of cognitive reappraisal?
To reevaluate and reinterpret the situations or stimuli in order to regulate emotions.
How cognitive reappraisal could not be efficient a strategy?
Some individuals can even think the stressful situation did not happen (suppress the memory).
What are some aspects of emotion regulation?
- Regulate attention deployment.
- Situation modification.
- Cognitive reappraisal.
- Response modulation
What are some maladaptive strategies of response modulation?
Abuse substances and behaviors. The substances to keep in check emotions can have a reduced effect over time.
What is one recommended way to modulate the emotional response?
Exercise, it proved to have better results, because it changes physical response like lowered blood pressure and low heartbeat rate.
Why is difficult to self-regulate emotions?
Because emotions are part of the limbic system which is the most primitive part of the brain.
