t: red w/ yellow greasy coating
p: slippery-rapid
phlegm-fire harassing HT
pathogenesis: long standing depressed mood and emotions injure SP and ST; impaired T&T fx leads to accumulation of dampness from which phlegm is generated; stagnated phlegm turns into fire which ascends to harass orifice and mist the mind
mood fluctuations, laughing w/o reason, anger, fullness and distention of hypochondrium and chest, frequent sighing, rash and explosive behaviour, sleep w/ copious bad dreams
t: red w/ thin yellow coating (dry, greasy)
p: wiry-rapid
LV fire blazing, affecting mind
pathogenesis: wishes cannot be fulfilled and extreme anger injures LV qi-regulating fx; LV qi mechanism becomes stagnated, and over time stagnated qi turns into fire; LV fire disturbs HT, causing mind and Hun insecurity

t: red w/ little coating
p: thready-rapid or wiry-thready-rapid
HT-KD disharmony
pathogenesis: HT fire cannot be restrained by the deficient KD yin water and floats upward to disturb mind; mind is therefore insecure
long-lasting symptoms, self-muttering and smiling, laughing w/o strength, dull spirit despite laughter, lassitude of mind, breathlessness, unwilling to talk and move
t: dull purplish w/ stasis dots and thin white coating
p: wiry-soggy
qi deficiency w/ blood stasis
pathogenesis: long-standing uncured disease leads to HT qi deficiency which in turn causes blood stasis obstruction inside
propensity to sadness and weeping, depression w/ low spirit, palpitations, breathlessness, slow movement, insomnia, spontaneous sweating, night sweating
t: pale w/ white coating
p: weak
HT-LU qi deficiency
pathogenesis: LU is related to grief; depleted LU qi leads to depression and low spirit; deficient HT qi causes palpitations and breathlessness
wandering and restless mind, propensity to sadness and weeping, restlessness, insane or psychotic behaviour, constipation, dyspnea, sob, aggression
t: red, slightly dry
p: thready-wiry
Zang Zao (hysteria)
pathogenesis: pensiveness or unresolved worries injure HT and SP; HT lacks nourishment from blood as the HT yin is deficient
fear w/ palpitations, soreness and weakness of lower back and knees, absent-mindedness, forgetfulness, seminal emission, night sweating, insomnia, cold limbs, cold body, fatigue, weakness
t: pale w/ white coating or red w/ little coating
p: deep-thready-weak or thready-rapid
KD essence deficiency
pathogenesis: KD stores essence and houses willpower; in case of chronic illness or excessive sexual activities, essence becomes consumed and depleted, leading to feat w/o any cause
easily frightened, pale facial complexion, fatigue, breathlessness, spontaneous sweating, palpitations
t: pale w/ white coating
p: weak
qi-blood deficiency
pathogenesis: HT governs blood and controls mind; if HT lacks nourishment because of qi-blood deficiency, leads to easy fright
always fearful feeling, indecision, hypochondriac discomfort
t: pale red w/ thin white coating
p: empty-wiry or weak
LV-GB qi deficiency
pathogenesis: LV stores blood and is residence of Hun; LV cannot hold Hun and Gb lacks determination in case of LV-GB deficiency; easy fright from daily problems and has feeling of being caught by other people
distending or scurrying pain of hypochondrium and chest, frequent sighing, depressed mood
t: pale red w/ white or yellow coating
p: wiry
LV qi stagnation
pathogenesis: emotional disturbances and suppressed resentment injure LV; LV qi circulation lacks fluency and qi mechanism is impaired, resulting in qi stagnation
agitation, short temper, distending pain of head and eyes, bitter taste, dry throat, hypochondriac and chest fullness and oppression
t: red w/ yellow coating
p: wiry-rapid
LV-GB excess fire
pathogenesis: long-lasting LV qi stagnation turns into fire, leading to LV-GB fire rebelling upward
agitation, short temper, hypochondriac and chest oppression, fatigue, weakness, poor appetite, abdominal bloating, abdominal pain, loose stool
t: pale red w/ thin white coating
p: wiry-forceless
LV-SP disharmony (LV qi attacking SP)
pathogenesis: in SP-deficient constitution, weakened SP is being taken advantage of by LV, leading to syndrome w/ SP deficiency and LV qi overacting manifestations
agitation, dizziness, tinnitus, sore lower back and knees, tidal fever, five centre heat, hypochondriac and chest oppression

p: thready-rapid
LV-KD yin deficiency
pathogenesis: LV lacks nourishment from KD water which is deficient; eventually LV-KD yin deficiency is ensured w/ LV yang hyperactivity

t: dull w/ thin white coating
p: wiry
HT-SP qi stagnation (milder version of HT-SP qi deficiency)
pathogenesis: bad and restricted mood due to mental strain or stress, or pensiveness due to unresolved worry leads to qi stagnation of HT and SP
worrying and over-pensiveness, melancholy, prone to crying, unwilling to speak, fatigue, spontaneous sweating, low spirit and depressed will
t: pale w/ thin white coating
p: wiry
LU qi deficiency

LV qi stagnation
pathogenesis: emotional disturbances and over-stimulation of mind injure LV; LV qi circulation lacks fluency and qi mechanism is impaired, resulting in qi stagnation
propensity to sighing, breathlessness, spontaneous sweating, fatigue, poor appetite

qi deficiency
pathogenesis: over-taxation or chronic illness leads to qi depletion; Zong qi (pectoral qi) is then stagnated due to qi lacking its propelling power
impatience, irritability, impulsive behaviour, raving, talking nonsense, delusions of grandeur, climbing high to sing, undressing to run around, red face and eyes, dizziness, headache
t: red w/ yellow greasy coating
p: wiry-slippery-rapid
phlegm-fire harassing mind/spirit
