What is a healthcare directive?
documents that outline treatment decisions that patients have asked to be followed if they become unable to communicate or make decisions for themselves
–>may also be called living wills
When does a health care directive become effective?
when the patient loses the ability to communicate or make health care decisions
Does a health care directive require expertise to fill out?
-no, a lawyer can be used but isn’t needed
-just download the document, print, then fill it out
-can also be a handwritten note as long as it is signed and dated
-a power of attorney would require a lawyer
What can not be put in a healthcare directive?
MAID

What are the differences between Palliative Sedation and Euthanasia?
What are the criteria for SPP?
What should you chart in regards to self-administered MAID?
-that they put the liquid up to their own lips (that we didn’t help them to drink it)
