Prophylactic in wks 16-37 - NOT FOR ACUTE TX - use in high risk women w/ Hx of preterm birth

EMERGENCY USE ONLY - uterine rupture - causes cervicouterine relaxation

Direct relaxation of myometrium - inhibit preterm labor

Causes timed contractions similar to natural labor

BLACK BOX for diarrhea

Promotes insertion of GLUT4s into membrane
Insulin preparations
Stimulate insulin release from pancreatic beta-cells
Indirectly potentiate action at target cells
Anti-diabetics: Sulfonylureas
Bind K receptors on beta cells = ↑insulin release
NOT A SULFA DRUG
Anti-diabetics: Meglitinides
USE IN TREATING METABOLIC SYNDROME
DOES NOT WORK ON BETA CELLS
Biguanides: Metformin (Glucophage)
DO NOT ↑INSULIN RELEASE
