(11 cards)
hormones
are carried by the blood stream, distributed to spicific receptor sites in the tissue of the body
endocrine glands
part of the diencephalon of the brain.
controls pituitary glans
pituitary gland
occupies the sella turcica of the sphenoid bone
center of the eyes and around tempral bone
name the 8 pituitary hormones

- oxytocin - affects uterus and breast tissue
- TSH - thyroid stimulating hormone
- ACTH - stimulate and affect adrenal cortex
- growth hormone - stimulates bone and tissue growth
- FSH - promotes growth of ovarian follicle and stimulates estrogen secreation
- LH - stimulates ovulation and corpus luteum development
- prolactin - promotes breast development and stimulates milk production
thyroid gland
location and structure
hormone
functions
L -bow-tie shaped organ in the anterior neck
H- T4 and T3 and calcitonin
F- metabolism regulation
calcitonin - decresses blood calcium
increases calcium in bone
parathyroid gland
location and structure
hormone
functions
L - just below the thyroid glad 2 surerior and 2 inferior
H - parathyroid hormone

Testies
location and structure
hormone
functions
L- oval shaped, about 2 inches long and occupy the scrotal sac of a male
H - testosterone
F testosterone - stimulates sperm production
responsible for the closure of the epiphyseal growth plate in bone
ovary
location and structure
hormone
functions
L- iliac fossa area
H- estrogens and progesterone
F - esterogens - promote follicular development in the ovary
Progestrone - closure of the epiphyseal growth plate, prepares uterus fro pregnancy and maintains lining in uterus
