Q

fight or flight response

A

endocrine system and the autonomic nervous system work together

hypothalamus becomes aware of the stressor and activates the pituitary

sympathetic nervous system is now aroused

adrenaline is released from the adrenal medulla into the bloodstream - this delivers the aroused state causing changes in organs
e.g increased heart rate, dilated pupils

it is immediate and automatic

parasympathetic nervous system - takes over once the threat has passed. returns body to resting rate
decreases heart rate and breathing rate
