Energy Flashcards
(13 cards)
Name the 8 energy stores
1) thermal
2) kinetic
3) Gravitational potential
4) Elastic potential
5) Chemical
6) Magnetic
7) Electrostatic
8)Nuclear
What is work done?
Work done is the same as the energy transferred
How do you find out kinetic energy?
Kinetic energy= a half x mass x speed(squared)
How to investigate specific heat capacity?
Use a power supply, heater, thermometer, block of material, insulation and an ammeter in a practical. The current throughout the circuit shouldn’t change on the ammeter as the temperature rises. Use the specific heat capacity equation to find results for a graph. Find the gradient of the graph to find the results
What is power?
Power is the rate of the energy transferred, or the rate of doing work
What does lubrication do?
Lubrication helps avoid frictional force that is against the energy.
What is thermal conductivity?
Thermal conductivity is a measure of how quickly energy is transferred through a material in this way
The cons of non-renweable energy resources?
1) these will all run out one day
2) They all do damage to the environment
What are the Pros and cons of renewable energy resources?
- These will never run out
-most of them do damage to the environment but less nasty ways than non-renewable
-They don’t provide much energy and some of them are reliable
Name 3 non-renewable energy resources
Coal
Oil
(Natural)Gas
Name 7 Renewable energy resources
-sun(solar)
-wind
-water waves
-hydro-electricity
-bio-fuel
-Tides
-Geothermal
What are bio-fuels made of?
Bio-fuels are renewable energy resources created from either plant products or animal dung
What happens to coal, oil and gas when it’s burnt?
Coal, oil and gas release Co2, into the atmosphere when they’re burnt. All this Co2 adds to the greenhouse effect, and contributes to global warming
