Flashcards in Energy Part 1 Deck (28):

What is potential energy?

It is energy that is stored and waiting to be used later.

1

On a hill where is potential energy the highest?

At the very top of the hill.

2

How do you find gravitational potential energy?

Mass•height

3

What is potential energy keyed off of?

It is due to an objects position.

4

What has more potential energy? A ball with greater mass or lesser mass dropped from the same height.

The greater the mass the more the potential energy.

5

Where is potential energy the least on a hill?

At the bottom of the hill.

6

Does the potential energy increase it drop height or mass increases?

Yes the potential energy always increases if the drop height or mass does.

7

If an object is moving does it have energy?

Yes this is called kinetic energy the energy of motion.

8

What does the objects kinetic energy depend on?

How much mass the object has.

9

What is kinetic energy proportional to?

Is it proportional to mass.

10

What is kinetic energy also proportional to?

It is directly proportional to the square of the objects speed.

11

If the mass increases so does the ____?

Kinetic energy, more KE means the object has more force.

12

If a bowling ball with a greater mass had more kinetic energy how hard will it hit the pins?

It will hit the pins with more force then a bowling ball with less mass.

13

If a ladder is climbed what you increases?

The potential energy.

14

What happens if you are on a ladder and you drop a paint can which energy increases?

Kinetic energy increases.

15

When is kinetic energy highest on a ladder?

Right before it hits the ground.

16

If you drop a paint can with a greater mass and a lesser mass from the 2nd rung due to the 5th. What happens?

Both potential energy and kinetic energy are lower.

17

On a roller coaster when is kinetic and potential energy at maximum?

1. At the bottom of the highest hill.
2. At the top of the highest hill.

18

Which energy is highest at the top of hills/bottom of hills.

1. Potential energy
2. Kinetic energy

19

Does potential energy or kinetic energy ever disappear completely?

No.

20

Can potential energy be changed to kinetic energy?

Yes.

21

What energy increases as you climb a ladder/increase as you climb down?

Potential and kinetic energy.

22

If an object has more mass instead of less mass which has the greater energies?

The greater mass object has more potential and kinetic energy.

23

________ potential energy=higher bounce height

Higher

24

The more the mass means the more the _________ energy?

potential

25

What effects the potential energy?

Height and mass.

26

How do you find kinetic energy?

Mass•velocity•velocity/2

27

In the Bottle Rolling lab why were more trials accurate then one?

Because human error could occur of the board could be tilted or the bottle could not roll straight or the different people could use force to push the bottle instead of just letting go.
