What is an ecosystem?
A natural unit consisting of a community of living organisms with each other and with the non-living components of the habitat.
What are biotic factors?
Living organisms.
What are abiotic factors?
The physical, non-living components.
What are the biotic factors?
Producers, consumers, saprobionts.
What are producers?
Plants which convert light energy into chemical energy during the process of photosynthesis.
What are consumers?
Break down large insoluble organic compounds into smaller soluble molecules which are used to provide energy for growth.
What are saprobionts?
Consists of bacteria and fungi which break down dead organisms and are essential for recycling of nutrients.
What are three important abiotic factors?
Light, pH, temperature.
