Engineering Flashcards
(22 cards)
How do you make mechanical systems more efficient?
Lubricating the gears
Lubrication reduces friction and wear, improving efficiency.
What are the two natures of forces that tend to be the answer?
Compression and tension
Where should the thermistor/LDR be for a circuit that turns on when it’s hot/bright?
At the top
How many delays are in loops that cause flashes?
At least 2
What are the environmental advantages of renewable power sources?
They reduce the reliance on fossil fuels and thus cause less climate change because less greenhouse gases are emitted.
What are the features of a gear chain diagram?
Each gear has two circles, a cross in the middle and entirely solid lines.
When talking about the loss/gain of jobs what must you refer back to?
The economy and how it means workers are not making/making money.
What are all the movement types?
Rotary, linear, reciprocating and oscillating
What should you check after doing a flowchart?
All ifs have Y/N, all lines have arrows and everything that is turned on is turned off.
What are the benefits of a circuit being in parallel?
If one component breaks it doesn’t break the whole circuit and all components receive the max voltage.
What do triangles do in a structure?
Increases the strength of a structure by making it more rigid.
When explaining the comparison made by a control unit how should you format it?
If X below Y then A, If X above Y then B, if X=Y then C. Always include the output driver.
What do 2 mark explain questions mean?
It is asking for a cause and effect.
When calculating teeth or revs on compound gear systems what should you check?
That the unit is correct.
What are the two types of gear trains?
Compound and simple
What does a transistor do?
Acts as an electronic switch.
What is the switch on voltage for a NPN transistor?
0.7V
What should you mention when talking about the benefits of a variable resistor?
How it allows the switch on value to be changed because its resistance can be changed.
What is the difference between electrical and electronic engineering?
Electrical engineers deal with large scale electronic systems whereas an electronic engineer deals with small scale electronic systems.
What are keywords for designing complex systems?
Design, simulate, test, calculate and model.
What is the keyword for implementing complex systems?
Ensure
What comes first in a time delay?
The UDR followed by the reseviour.
