kinetic energy equation
KE= o.5mv2
Gravitational Potential Energy
GPE=mgh
mass×gravitational field×height
Elastic Potential Energy
Ee= o.5×spring constant×e2
Work Done equation
Work done= force(N)×distance(m)
Power
P= E÷t
Power = energy transferred ÷ time
or Work done(W) ÷ time(s)
Power equation for electrical circuits
P= IV (for electrical circuits)
I (for electrical circuits)
V= voltage
equation for Efficiency
Efficiency= Useful output energy ÷ Total input energy × 100
when should you use the equation for power
Power=WorkDone÷Time
Use this when energy is transferred mechanically (e.g. lifting a weight, pushing a box).
“Work done” is just energy transferred by force.
📌 Example:
If you apply 100 N to push a box 5 m in 10 second
when should you use the equation for power
Power=EnergyTransferred÷Time
Use this when you’re given energy in joules (J) and time in seconds (s).
Applies to things like:
Electrical appliances (e.g. a kettle uses 2000 J in 10 seconds)
Heating systems
General energy use
Specific heat capacity meanining
how much energy is needed to raise the temperature of 1 kg of a substance by 1°C.
specific heat capacity equation
energy transferred (J) = mass (kg)×specific heat capacity (J/kg°C)× temperature change (°C)
ΔE= m×c×Δθ
