Vocal Cord dysfunction
Vocal Cord Dysfunction/ Inducible laryngeal obstruction
- inappropriate, transient, reversible narrowing of the larynx in response to external triggers
Triggers - asthma, exercise, post extubation, inhaled irritants, gord, psychosocial stressors
upper airway wheeze/ stridor - not heard in bases, no response to bronchodilators or adrenaline, coughing, hoarse voice
Nasoendoscopy - paradoxical vocal cord movement in adduction - usually anterior cords. Supraglottic constriction. Absence of oedema or FB
Breathing exercises, panting/ speech path, reassurance, diazepam/ midazolam, treat co-concurrent asthma/ gord, reduce irritants, CPAP, Botunilnum toxin
Peritonsillar Abscess/ Quinsy
Deviated uvular, functuant mass
