Enzyme Update Flashcards
(11 cards)
Enzyme
Organic catalyst, usually a protein, that speeds reaction in cells due to its particular shape.
Active site
Region of an enzyme where the substrate binds and where the chemical reaction occurs.
Induced fit model
Change in the shape of an enzymes active site that enhances the fit between the active site and it’s substrates
Catalyst
Participate in chemical reactions but are not used up by the reaction.
Substrate
Reactant in an enzyme, controlled reaction
Product
Substance that forms as a result of a reaction
Energy of activation
Energy that must be added in order for molecules ro react with one another
Ppe
Gloves, apron
Materials
Lactase tablet, pestle and mortar, stirring rod, 25ml graduated cylinder, 50 ml breaker, disposable pipet, timer, 2 test strips, lactase tablet, mixing well tray, 1 ml of each different product and glucose test strip color chart.
Disaccharide
Sugar that contains 2 monosaccharide units
Monosaccharide
Simple sugar. Carb that can’t be broken down by hydrolysis.
