Q

explain how G values change based on whether a reaction is spontaneous or not.

A

when G is a negative value the process is spotaneous and when G is a positive value the reaction requires energy and is therefore non-spontaneous.

Q

What does an enzyme do to a reaction?

A

an enzyme works to lower the activation energy of a reaction, they work as catalysts and are not consumed during reaction, and they are highly specific

Q

explain induced fit hypothesis.

A

refers to the fact that the active site shape shifts slightly after the substrate is in the active site

Q

What is a co-factor?

A

is non-protein molecules that can either be organic (coenzymes aka vitamins) or non-organic (zinc. iron or copper) and functions to ensure enzyme function

Q

explain the difference between a chemical inhibitor and a non-competitive inhibitor.

A

A competitive inhibitor binds to the active site making it unavailable, and a non-competitive inhibitor binds to a different site on the enzyme causing a shift in the active site so it is no longer able to attract a substrate.
