Enzymes Flashcards
(11 cards)
What are enzymes
-Catalysts that speed up the rate of reaction.
-They are made of proteins and are considered Biological Catalysts
How does an enzyme work?
-The lock and key model is simple. Every lock can only be opened by a particular key which matches the lock. In order for the lock to open, the key has to fit into the lock
perfectly.
-The enzyme is the lock, and substrate the key. In order for a substrate to bind to the active site of an enzyme, it must have the correct shape which allows it to “fit” into the active site.
-Hello past Aaqil,The diagrahm is attached below. Hope you the best Aaqil!

What is the substrate?
-The thing your body is trying to digest
-In the lock and key diagrahm its also known as the key
-Your body digests the thing by causing chemical reactions
Does Enzymes slow or speed up digestion?
Speeds up the process
When a “lock” and “key” fit what do we call it?
Remember the diagrahm?
We say that they are complementary
Are all enzymes made for all types of digestive foods?
-No,Your enzymes are almost all different all made for different digestive specifications
-Like the enzyme that digests lemon juice doesn’t digest chocolates
Are enzymes 2D or 3D?
They are 3D as they are made of proteins which are 3D
What do we call the moment when the substrate and enzyme are together but aren’t reacting yet?
An Enzyme-Substrate Complex
Are the Substrates and Enzymes attracted and move systimatically?
No,their movement is random and their instersection chances are random
What are the things that form after the reaction?
The Products
Does the enzyme change after the reaction?
No,it stays the same and goes and reacts with other same type substrates
