16
Q

What is the temperature enzymes work best at?

A

Optimum Temperature

17
Q

What is the neutral optimum ph

18
Q

What ph does pepsin work best at

19
Q

Where is pepsin

A

In the stomach

20
Q

The higher the substrate concentration….

A

The faster the reaction

21
Q

Why is it that the higher the substrate concentration, the faster the reaction

A

Because it is more likely that the enzyme will meet up and react with substrate molecule

22
Q

Practical on investigation of how ph affects enzyme activity

A
  1. Put a drop of iodine solutions into every well of spotting tile
  2. Set up water bath at 35°C
  3. Add amylase solution and buffer solution in pH 5 into boiling tube
  4. Put boiling tub in the water bath and wait 5 mins
  5. add starch solution to boiling tube, mix and start stop clock
  6. Every 10 seconds take a sample from boiling tube using a dropping pipette
  7. Put a drop of sample into well on spotting tile
  8. When iodine solution stays browny-orange all starch in sample has been broken down
  9. Repeat experiment with buffer solution of different pHs
23
Q

As the pH changes what else will change?

A

The time it takes for starch to be broken down

24
Q

What should stay the same to make it a fair test?

A

Concentration and volume of amylase solution

25
Rate of reaction?
Rate = 1000 ÷ time
