Enzymes III: Enzyme Inhibitions and Regulations Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
Define what is an inhibitor
A
Molecule which acts directly on an enzyme to lower its catalytic rate
2
Q
State the main types of enzyme inhibition
A
1) Reversible inhibition
- can be overcome by removing the inhibitor from the enzyme (eq: by dialysis)
2) Irreversible inhibition
- can’t be overcome since the inhibitors will permanently bounded to the enzyme
3
Q
Explain how does enzyme being regulated?
A
Enzymes are regulated by either increasing or reducing their activity by the addition of activators or inhibitors
4
Q
State the 4 mechanism types of enzyme regulation
A
a) Feedback Regulation
b) Allosteric Regulation
c) Reversible Covalent Modification
d) Proteolytic Activation
