Q

Describe the induced fit hypothesis (4 marks)

A

1) The active site of the enzyme is not complementary to the substrate.
2) The enzyme is flexible and can change shape.
3) so this means that the enzyme can flex/mould around the substrate.
4) this puts strain on the substrate, the chemical bonds are stretched and distorted making the substrate weaker.
It will eventually break to form the product.

Q

Describe the Lock and Key hypothesis (4 marks)

A

1) The substrate is complementary to the active site of the enzyme.
2) This means that the substrate binds straight to the active site-
To form an enzyme-substrate complex.
3) Only one substrate can bind to the active site as its shape is specific.
