Q

what can enzymes do?

A
  • break up large molecules and join small ones
  • protein molecules and the shape of the enzyme is vital to its function
  • each enzyme has its own uniquely shaped active site where the substrate binds

Q

whats lock and key hypothesis?

A
  1. shape of the substrate is complementary to the shape of active site, when they bond it forms enzyme - substrate complex
  2. once bound the reaction takes place and products are released from surface of the enzyme
