EQ3-4.4:Human activity Flashcards

1
Q

How does coastal management (building groynes for example) affect coastlines down drift?

A

Coastal management such as groynes, will affect coastlines down drift as they are trapping sediment carries by LSD(Long Shore Drift). If the sediment traps sediment therefore beaches further down the coastline will become thinner and cannot expand.

Q

How does dredging affect the coastline?

Q

How does industry affect the coastline?

A

Industry extracts some materials from the coast, which increases the risk of a erosion because there is less material to protect cliffs.

Q

How does development (jobs/houses/building) impact on the coastline?

A

Coasts with lots of settlement may have more coastal defences than all the areas because people want to protect their homes and businesses. This has a positive direct effect on the coastline because the land is more protected against erosion.
