Equations unit 7 Flashcards
(19 cards)
Speed of light
3e8 m/s
Red light
500-700nm
Green light
450-630nm
Blue light
400-500nm
Sky blue principle thing
Rayleigh scattering - light scatters due to the presence of molecules. More molecules = bigger wavelength and vice versa.
Redshift
happens when the light source is moving away from the observer (bigger wavelength)
Blueshift
happens when the light source is moving towards the observer (smaller wavelength)
Index of refraction
i of refraction = light speed in medium / 3e8 m/s
Snell’s law
index of refraction for first medium * sin(angle of incidence) = index of refraction for second medium * sin(angle of refraction)
Total internal reflection
Angle of refraction reaches critical and so light go bounce bounce
Snell’s law (in terms of speed)
v1/v2 = sin(angle of incidence) / sin(angle of refraction)
Diffraction
If light passes through slits, it bends like sound does
High points (constructive interference): maxima
Low points (destructive interference): minima
Equation for double-slit interference
distance(sin(theta)) = wavelength * m
Lens/mirror equation
1/f = 1/do + 1/di
Distance of image / object
di = 1 / ((1/f) - (1/do))
Focal length
(di * do) / (do + di)
Height
-ho(di / do)
Radius
2f
Power
1/f
