Errors Flashcards
(31 cards)
Known as: collimation cut off x-ray beam is not centered on the film on exposed area on the film
Cone cutting
Film is placed in the mouth backwards. The x-ray hit the lead foil first and leaves a herringbone pattern
Reversed film/ Herringbone pattern
Whole tooth does not show on the film
Apex and top of crown is cut off
Teeth open during bitewing
Incorrect / Poor film placement
Central ray is not parallel to the interproximal surfaces
- Central ray is not perpendicular to the teeth and the film
- Poor angulation
Horizontal overlapping
Caused by too much finger pressure
- Roots appear long and bend/go off film
Excessive bending
Using the same film twice
Double exposure
Patient/film or tube head move during exposure
Blurred image
Failure to remove full or partial denture or jewelry before exposure
Super imposition
Teeth appear long because vertical angle was too low
Elongation
Teeth appear sure because vertical angle was too high
Foreshortening
Light film caused by underexposure under development or cold solution
• not enough KVP
• check MA, time and KVP
Low density film
Dark film caused by over exposure over development or hot solution
High Density film
Film has a great appearance like looking through fog •Light leakage in dark room •Improper safe lighting •Improper storage •Secondary radiation exposure •Using an outdated film
Fogged film
Film not fully immersed in developer
Developer Cut-off/ Partial Emersion
- No radiation exposure
- Over processed
- Left overnight
Clear or blank film
Dirty work surface in dark room or insufficient rinsing of film
Stained Film - brownish yellow
Film was not adequately fixed
Discolored film - brown or gray color
Films cling together while dying and emotion is pulled off film when separating them
• GELATIN HAS NOT DRIED
Turn emulsion
Scratches on film while film is wet
Scratched emulsion
Black marks from touching film with fluoride (fingerprints)
Fluoride artifacts
Cracking of the emulsion do to varying temperatures of processing solution
• web like appearance
Reticulation
White spots caused by air bubbles clinging to film while processing solution
• when film is not shaken vigorously after being submerged in solution
Air bubbles
Caused by opening film packet to forcefully or removing extra Oreo found to forcefully
Static electricity
Entire film or one area is black caused by film being exposed to white late
Black film
