Define and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of using the Five Love Languages in interpersonal communication.
The five love languages are words of affirmation, receiving gifts, acts of service, quality time, and physical touch.
We tend to speak in our own language. If we don’t learn to speak in someone else’s language, they will not feel loved by us.
If we use all of them, we can eventually learn what their language is.
Once we learn to speak in someone else’s language we will begin to fill their love tank.
Discuss some proper Scriptural methods and techniques to use when correcting others.
If it is a child in our care, we are commanded to reprove them. (Prov 23:13). Ultimately, we have to answer to God for our own children. As teachers, the students’ parents have entrusted us to help train their child. We should not take responsibility that lightly. We need to train our children, not punish them in anger.
If is a brother in Christ, we need to first search our own hearts. (Matt 7:5). If we feel led by the Spirit, we need to lovingly go to the person. We need to point out the fault and offer a solution.
All of this should be done with their best interest at heart.
What are some Biblical principles concerning the proper attitude and response towards being rebuked or corrected?
We need to gratefully receive correction from our Christian brothers and sisters. (Prov 15:10). If they are pointing out a sin in our life, we should thank them then confess and repent of that sin. If they are describing a way we hurt them, we need to apologize to that person as well. We should also read God’s word and listen to His Spirit. (Prov 3:11)
What are some biblical principles for forgiveness and reconciliation outlined in Mark 11:25-26 and Luke 17:1-10?
Mark 11:25-26. If our brother has offended us, we should just forgive him. We need to remember that our perfect Father has forgiven us of much more.
Luke 17:1-10 if our brother has offended us, we need to rebuke him and then forgive him. If he does it repeatedly, then we forgive repeatedly. It is our basic duty to forgive others, regardless of how many times they sin against us. Just as a master expects his servant to fulfill his daily duties, God expects us to forgive others.
List and give some Biblical justification for some tips and suggestions for being tactful in speech.
Col 4:6. We need to be gracious when sharing the truth.
Eph 4:15 We are sharing the truth because we love the person.
When speaking to others, we should always have their best interest at heart. If the truth needs to be heard, we need to be gracious and show them love.
