Q

What is Simple Squamous Epithelium?

A

Single layer of flat cells.
-lines avioli of the lungs,
-makes up pericardium/pleura/ peritoneum

Allows diffusion and filtration; located in air sacs of lungs and blood vessel linings.

Q

What is Simple Cuboidal Epithelium?

A

-Single layer of cube-shaped cells.
-absorbs/secretes

Q

What is Simple Columnar Epithelium?

A

-Single layer of tall, column-like cells;
-lines small/large intestine

16
Q

What is Pseudostratified ciliated

A

-found in trachea
-catches sweeps up dirt in air

Functions in secretion, especially mucus, and ciliary movement; found in trachea and upper respiratory tract.

17
Q

What is Stratified Squamous Epithelium?

A

-offers most protection
-keratanized? in epidermis/top layer of skin
-nonkeratanzied? every entrance and exit area of the body (anus/ esophagus/mouth)

Protects underlying tissues in areas of abrasion; located in skin (keratinized), mouth, and esophagus (non-keratinized).

18
Q

What is Stratified Cuboidal Epithelium?

A

-found in ducts of exocrine glands
-protection and secretion
-NEVER more than 3 layers

Functions in protection; found in sweat glands, mammary glands, and salivary glands.

19
Q

exocrine gland

A

secretes hormones into blood stream, lots of blood vessels
-ovaries

20
Q

endocrine glanol

A

secretes substances via a duct to surface
-sweat glands, saliva, semen, digestive

21
Q

What is Stratified Columnar Epithelium?

A

not on test.

Functions in protection and secretion; located in male urethra and some glandular ducts.

22
Q

What is Transitional Epithelium?

A

-5-10 layers
-ONLY found in urinary system

Stretches to allow urinary organ expansion; found in bladder, ureters, and part of urethra.
