What is ethnicity?
A
The shared culture of a group which gives members a common identity - includes common descent, geographical origins, history, language, religion and traditions.

How are ethnic identities changing?
A
- New ethnic identities are forming
- More mixed-race children are being born (Tizard and Phoenix)
- Hybrid identities are forming in diasporas (Hall)
- Non-white people adopt a ‘white mask’ when encountering white culture (Johal)

What is national identity?
A
The feeling of being part of a larger community in the form of a nation. Not the same as nationality.
