What is the European Commission?
The European Commission is the EU’s executive body responsible for proposing legislation, implementing decisions, upholding the EU treaties and managing the day-to-day business of the EU.
What is the European Parliament?
The European Parliament is the directly elected parliamentary institution of the European Union. It shares legislative powers with the Council of the European Union and has budgetary and supervisory responsibilities.
What is the Council of the European Union?
Also known as the Council of Ministers, it is the institution representing the member states’ governments. It is responsible for coordinating policies, adopting legislation, and developing the EU’s foreign & security policy.
What is the European Council?
The European Council consists of the heads of state or government of the EU member states, the European Council President, and the President of the European Commission. It sets the EU’s overall political direction and priorities but does not legislate.
What is the Court of Justice of the European Union?
The Court of Justice of the European Union interprets EU law to ensure it is applied in the same way across all EU countries, and settles legal disputes between national governments and EU institutions.
What is the European Central Bank?
The European Central Bank is responsible for the monetary policy of the Eurozone, including maintaining price stability by setting key interest rates and controlling the money supply.
What is the European Court of Auditors?
The European Court of Auditors checks the proper management of the EU’s finances. It ensures that EU funds are raised and used according to the law and that the EU budget is implemented correctly.
What is the European Economic and Social Committee?
The European Economic and Social Committee is a consultative body that gives representatives of Europe’s socio-economic interest groups, and others, a formal platform to express their points of views on EU issues.
What is the Committee of the Regions?
The Committee of the Regions is an EU advisory body composed of locally and regionally elected representatives from all 27 Member States. It allows regions and cities to voice their opinions on EU legislation that directly impacts regions and cities.
What is the European Investment Bank?
The European Investment Bank is the European Union’s investment bank and is tasked with providing finance and expertise for sustainable investment projects that contribute to EU policy objectives.
